East Asia, China, Warring States, Eastern Zhou, ca. 475 BCE to 220 CE. A bronze vessel of an elegant form with a broad, rounded shoulder, a corseted neck, and a flared rim, all enveloped in several horizontal bands of mesmerizing relief decoration. The tightly-packed designs feature rows of tongue motifs, a maze-like zoomorphic pattern, and repeated triangles filled with scrolling striations. This ornate vessel was once flanked by a pair of handles, each in the form of a dragon with a slender, undulating body that formed a vertical loop for easy gripping. Size: 11.8" Diameter x 9" H (30 cm x 22.9 cm)
