Description:

Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca region, Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku) culture, early period, ca. 300 to 600 CE. An intriguing abstract standing anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved from red-brown sandstone, standing atop a pair of thick legs. Blocky arms wrap around the rectangular chest with hands meeting in front of the abdomen and flanking a rectangular belt ornament, with a lightly-corseted neck line supporting the cube-form head. The minimalist visage boasts concentric rectangular eyes, an elongated triangular nose, a slender mouth, and a block-form hat engraved with a large "X" on the front. Perhaps created as a votive object or as a funerary offering, this is an enigmatic example from ancient Bolivia! Size: 1.25" W x 4.625" H (3.2 cm x 11.7 cm); 5.4" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.
