Description:

Pre-Columbian, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca region, Tiahuanaco / Tiwanaku, early period, ca. 300 to 600 CE. An intriguing abstract standing anthropomorphic figure, hand-carved from a red-brown sandstone, standing atop a pair of thick legs. A pair of carved arms are held tightly against a blocky torso, hands meeting in front of the abdomen and flanking a rectangular belt ornament, with a singular protruding shoulder supporting a thick neck. The minimalist head boasts a triangular nose, a blocky brow decorated with an incised headband, with both eyes and the mouth formed from concentric rectangles. Perhaps created as a votive object or as a funerary offering, this is an enigmatic example from ancient Bolivia! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 2.75" H (7 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.
