Description:

Europe, Italy, ca. early 20th century CE. A wonderful, tall, antique coin cabinet made of highly polished, light wood. Said to be from the collection of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy (reigned from 1900 to 1946 CE). The case has two columns of drawers, each side consisting of 67 for a total of 134 drawers. Each drawer has a thin wooden spacer grid that accommodates up to thirty coins in 2" x 2" (5 cm x 5 cm) slots. The drawers are also padded on the inside with red felt. The drawers are all numbered with original metal round plaques from 1-67 on each side. The bottom two drawers are twice as deep as the other 132 and have no spacers or felt. Size: 16.5" L x 39.5" W x 70" H (41.9 cm x 100.3 cm x 177.8 cm)

Above each set of drawers are the letters "E" on the left and "F" on the right, indicating that there were most likely at least two other similar cabinets that preceded this one in the Emmanuel Collection. The outside of the two large doors that swing open are wonderfully carved into nine horizontally set rectangular patterns per door. The top and bottom front of the cabinet have beautifully carved wooden leaf vignettes. There is a skeleton key lock on the right door.
