Description:

Sino-Siberia, ca. 1000 - 500 BCE. An incredible example of the bronze work of the Siberians, a cast bronze knife with curved blade with ridged back, a handle with inscription, and pommel in the form of a moose head. Inscription is non-sensical, indicating that the craftsman that made this knife was copying the inscription from a southern culture's knife, likely Chinese, but making it for the Siberian culture. Superb patina. 12"L.

Provenance: Ex-Connell Collection, MA; acquired from Dr. H.A. Fawcett (1891 - 1982). Dr. Fawcett acquired and maintained a collection of over 8,000 ancient weapons, ornaments, and implements, of which the majority is now with the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
