Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Pueblo, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A double strand necklace comprised of thin turquoise nuggets that are lightly polished, nacre shell with white and orange hues, and shell heishi beads strung on a cotton thread. The necklace is wearable and fastened by a knotted and wrapped end which is characteristic of earlier Pueblo pieces. To achieve uniform heishi beads, the shells are cut and drilled, strung on the thread, and then sanded down. Size of strand doubled: 30" L (76.2 cm); largest turquoise: 1" L x 0.6" W (2.5 cm x 1.5 cm)
