Description:

Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Sitka, Tlingit culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. Extremely rare carved pendant - possibly carved from seal or sea lion - in the form of an abstract totem. Found at an archeological site near Sitka, this transformational being would have held great significance and was probably used to ward off evil spirits. Purportedly found along with 15 additional pieces and were all believed to be part of a shaman's necklace. Size: 1.375" W x 2.5" H (3.5 cm x 6.4 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) in included frame.
