Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Columbia River Plateau region, Nez Perce, ca. late 19th to early 20th CE. A large cornhusk bag finely woven or twined from hemp / cotton cords and embroidered with cornhusks and yarn, with a hide hem and tassels. The natural and dyed cornhusks are false embroidered over the surface and embellished with colored yarn into geometric patterns. Bags woven from cornhusk and native hemp were sought after trade items in the Plateau trade network, and as time went on, these bags were created more ornately using many materials but often still retaining brightly colored embroidery made from cornhusk. Size: 21.5" L x 15.5" W (54.6 cm x 39.4 cm)
