Tribal / Ethnographic, Latin America, Mexico, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely retablo painted on heavy gauge tin depicting the winged Archangel San Miguel (Saint Michael) assuming his dual role of general of heaven's angels and protector of the Church Militant victorious in the battle with the dragon, or as described in Revelation 12: 7-9, "That old serpent called the Devil and Satan." He is dressed beautifully in helmet and battle dress of rich jewel tone red and blue hues, subduing a demon in the form of a dragon that is underfoot. Size: 14" L x 10" W (35.6 cm x 25.4 cm)
