Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1906 CE. An oil paint on tin antique Mexican ex-voto depicting a gentleman dressed in white with a sombrero atop his head, hobbling on crutches in the countryside as a result of an accident that severed his foot. This ex-voto was created to give thanks to the Virgin of La Talpa, depicted in the upper left-hand corner, for his recovery. The text generally translates as follows, "On August 10, 1906, Isidro was working at the straw (wheat?) mill when his foot came head to head with a wheel. At that moment it was severed and he begged Our Lady of Talpa for cure, and in a few days his leg was healthy, thanks to the Virgin and to all powerful God." Beautiful composition, fine painting, and fun subject matter for the accident prone among us! Size: 9-15/16" x 7" Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, James Caswell, Santa Monica, CA All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
