Description:

South Asia, Northeastern India to Burma, Naga Konyak culture, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A rare example of an early handmade warrior helmet comprised of a rattan conical frame with cotton cords woven over the surface. Goat skins are sewn over top on the exterior with short goat horns as decoration to the sides, and carved boar tusk panels attached at the front, a hair tassel at the peak, and the interior has tufts of raw wool. Only seasoned warriors, skilled in both war and hunting, can wear boar tusks.
