Lot 174
**Originally Listed At $450**
Western Europe, France, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A decadent garniture trio comprised of a brass mantel clock and matching candelabras, with ornate rococo and baroque inspired scrolling flourishes, lion head, and a classical Grecian urn finial. The clocks enamel face is protected by a glass door, the hours marked by Roman numerals and Arabic numerals for seconds. The clock comes with the winding key and the interior mechanism is marked "A.1." The candelabras have removable glass inserts for using tea light candles or taper candles. Size of clock: 9.5" L x 5" W x 18.75" H (24.1 cm x 12.7 cm x 47.6 cm); candelabra Size: 7" L x 7" W x 18.75" H (17.8 cm x 17.8 cm x 47.6 cm)
Please note, many garniture de cheminee are often mislabeled as "ormolu," and true ormolu is gilded by a process using powdered gold and mercury, brushed onto surface. During the second half of the 19th century, pieces were gilded by a process of electrolysis and do not contain mercury or gold, and these are often inaccurately referred to as ormolu. This set dates the latter half of the 19th to early part of the 20th century.
