East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A pair of hand-carved wooden panels depicting scenes of Immortals, Taoist gods of fortune, in an outdoor garden setting. These carvings may have originally adorned furniture - such as cabinets, marriage beds - or served as architectural components in temples or homes. Size of carved panel: 12.5" L x 7" W (31.8 cm x 17.8 cm); frames: 21" L x 14" W (53.3 cm x 35.6 cm)
