Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1850 CE. An antique wooden santo figure, hand carved and hand painted, depicting a female saint dressed in white robes and a long, blue veil. She most likely represents Saint Mariana of Jesus de Paredes y Flores, the first Roman Catholic saint to be canonized from Ecuador. The figure was carved separately from the pedestal. A special example of religious art from Mexico. Size: 4.125" W x 11.75" H (10.5 cm x 29.8 cm)
