Native American, Southwestern United States, Apache people, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fantastic basketry jar, known as a "tus," hand-coiled from natural plant fibers and then covered in a pitch to make watertight with a pair of horsehair handles woven into the sides. Tus vessels were used for collecting and transporting water back to a settlement. Size: 7" Diameter x 10" H (17.8 cm x 25.4 cm)

- Condition: Most of the pitch coating has flaked away from the surface, revealing the coiling below. Pitch actively is flaking on the interior when handled. Horsehairs are fraying along the ends, but are tightly braided and secure. Basket is tightly woven and overall great condition.
