Description:

**Originally Listed At $450**

Near East, Western Anatolia, Turkey, Manisa / Kula, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A beautiful wool prayer rug with a low pile and short warp fringe, the main field color is a deep indigo blue, and the fibers have a lustrous sheen that gives the appearance of silk. The borders frame the central mihrab shape - the arched doorway or an ornamental niche in the wall of a mosque that indicates the direction of Mecca - with a central flower or plant motif. Inside the mihrab are repeating landscape patterns of trees and buildings, sometimes known as "cemetery" patterns because they depict mausoleums and the cypress tree symbol of immortality. This rug has beautiful coloration and was most recently used in a home with low foot traffic - the colors are dark with minimal to no fading. Overall great condition with only some wear to bound edges. Size: 77" L x 48" W (195.6 cm x 121.9 cm)
