West Africa, Ghana, Akan / Ashanti (Ashante), ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. A brass sculpture of a king and a kneeling citizen before him. The king's elaborate beard, headdress, throne, and size compared to the other figure, emphasize his royal bearing. Brass statues were used to illustrate proverbs and people's place in society, as well as weights for measuring out gold dust. Size: 3.5" L x 2" W x 5.5" H (8.9 cm x 5.1 cm x 14 cm)
