Description:

West African, Nigeria, Yoruba peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. An intriguing bronze effigy figure in the form of a female adorned in a knee-length skirt with layers of necklaces cascading down her bare chest and a giant, triangular pendant lying between her pendulous breasts. She stands with arms spread, bent at the elbows, and hands open as a tri-crested headdress crowns her engaging countenance. Her bulging eyes symbolize that the item is filled with Onile's spirit, while the medium of brass, the metal of royalty in Yoruba society, shows the power of the Ogboni. Size: 3.2" L x 9.5" W x 21" H (8.1 cm x 24.1 cm x 53.3 cm); 22" H (55.9 cm) on included custom stand.
