Description:

North America, USA, ca. early 20th century CE. A pretty wooden chest inspired by Japanese visual culture, with painted leather decoration attached to its body by brass rivets and decorative bronze filament. The filament, in floral forms, compliments the painted leather, which is decorated with a profusion of blue, yellow, white, and green wildflowers that line its every border and seem to spill off its edges. The interior is lined with lighter colored leather and wine red velvet. Ornate brass handles and a locking mechanism (with the key stored on the interior) help you carry and keep your items secure. A round brass plaque at the top of the chest features a stylized geisha with floral patterns to her side. This was likely inspired by the craze for everything from "the Orient" that was popular in Europe and America in the early part of the 20th century. Size: 5.6" L x 9" W x 6" H (14.2 cm x 22.9 cm x 15.2 cm)
