Central Asia, Turkmenistan / Iran, Turkoman (Turkman), Ersari Beshir tribe, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful hand-knotted wool panel known as a torba or juval, with traditional geometric motifs; a diamond lattice grid in the center with "bowtie" shaped border. The torba is traditionally handwoven and knotted by women, and this would have been a panel from a long storage bag, the border with a short pile perhaps the opening side. Size: 43" L x 13" W (109.2 cm x 33 cm)
