Description:

Southeast Asia, Malaysia, Borneo, Sarawak, Taman Dayak people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lovely, well preserved beaded skirt featuring a black cotton upper portion, a bright red waistband, and a dramatic beaded lower portion composed of thousands of glass seed beads sewn onto the black cotton backing. Repeated abstract zoomorphic motifs in orange, yellow, green, red, blue, and white are against a brilliant yellow background. A short beaded fringe hangs around the lower end. This traditional style of skirt is composed of beads traded with early European visitors to the region, sewn by Dayak women into patterns important to their culture. Size (with width as waist size): 32" W x 20.45" H (81.3 cm x 51.9 cm)
