South Asia, India, ca. early 20th century CE. A wonderful curved, carbon steel sword or sabre known as a talwar (also spelled talwaar and tulwar) from India - the name talwar deriving from a Sanskrit word that means "one-edged sword". This talwar has a characteristically long curved blade with a single edge, a pointed tip, a disk hilt, and an elegant knuckle bow. It is also accompanied by a velvet scabbard of wine red hues with a double band of golden threads adorning the wider end. Size (w/ sheath): 4.4" W x 35.375" H (11.2 cm x 89.9 cm); (blade): 30.25" L (76.8 cm)
