**First Time At Auction**

Western Europe, Spain, ca. 1911 CE. A steel saber with a decorative guard displaying an eagle in a disc on its base and a lion's head on its top. The grip is made of horn wrapped with thin copper bands, while the decorative pieces of the guard are gilt copper. The rest of the guard is steel painted black. The blade is stamped with the year of its manufacture, "Ano D 1911," as well as its place of manufacture, "Fa. D. Toledo." Decorative repousse floral motifs surround each of these stamped areas. A leather scabbard covers the blade. Toledo has been famous for its swords since the Roman period, and was particularly renowned during the medieval period. The tradition of sword making continues there to this day. Size: 5.5" W x 40" H (14 cm x 101.6 cm)
