Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden bust of an ancestral figure with a stocky neck and an enormous head. The massive visage is characterized by miniscule slit-form eyes, a bulbous nose, pursed lips, smooth cheeks, and bar-shaped ears, all below a plateaued brow with a vertical, twin-lobed crest in the center. Covered in remains of a pale grey-brown pigment, this is a fabulous example from Papua New Guinea! Custom wooden display stand included. Size: 3.5" W x 12.125" H (8.9 cm x 30.8 cm); 14.75" H (37.5 cm) on included custom stand.
