Description:

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, possibly Maprik / Wosera area, Abelam and Arapesh peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A carefully carved bone dagger rendered from the thigh bone of a huge cassowary bird. Naturally adorned in a creamy beige hue with nice remains of red paint at the top and backside, the curious weapon presents with a tapered form and a sharp point with 4 holes on its thick top for suspension around one's upper arm or neck. A gorgeous motif of an incised geometric pattern featuring curled "V" shapes and a zig-zag border at the bottom embellish the top three-quarters of its lengthy body. A wonderful example from Papua New Guinea! Size: 2.25" W x 9.125" H (5.7 cm x 23.2 cm); 10.625" H (27 cm) on included custom stand.
