Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest (USA and Canada), Haida peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A finely-carved and painted wooden totem pole depicting an abstract reptilian figure standing atop an unusual bifurcated face, all atop a stylized anthropomorphic head. The three figures are situated on top of a rectangular plinth and are held in place with a pair of metal nails on the base. The beings are detailed with painted embellishments in shades of gold, turquoise, jet, citrine, crimson, and pearl. The abstruse figures nest atop one another, each being separated by a blocky body and changing chromatic schema. A wonderful and early example! Size: 2.5" W x 10.75" H (6.4 cm x 27.3 cm).
