Description:

North Africa, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. Carved from wood, with gorgeous shell inlay patterns and a stamped leather pad, this is an old example of a camel saddle. The dark wooden surface is adjustable, to allow (relatively) gentle movement for the rider on long rides through the desert. Leather straps hold the different wooden components together. The inlaid patterns are geometric and resemble beautiful Islamic tile patterns. Size: 11.75" L x 21" W x 17.5" H (29.8 cm x 53.3 cm x 44.4 cm)
