Central Asia, Nepal, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic figure standing atop delineated legs and holding slender arms tightly against the chest in a gesture of prayer. The gently sloped chest and angled shoulders taper up to form the ovoid head, and plateaued brows, a bulbous nose, and a thin mouth comprise the minimalist visage. Remains of red and beige pigment are visible across the head and upper body, and smooth patina has formed across the entire figure. Size: 4.125" W x 18.125" H (10.5 cm x 46 cm)

  • Condition: Both legs reattached at hips, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Nicks and abrasions to feet, legs, body, arms, and head, with fading to original pigment, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits, smooth patina, and light remains of pigment throughout.
