Central Asia, Nepal, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden face mask depicting an abstract countenance, perhaps that of a deity. The face presents with almond-shaped eyes and pierced pupils, a bulbous nose with delineated nostrils, a downturned mouth with a protruding tongue, and a triangular element between the eyes. The verso is carved out for wear, and the entire composition is covered with dark brown pigment. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 5.4" W x 7.6" H (13.7 cm x 19.3 cm)
