Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Dine (Navajo), ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-woven Ganado wool runner rug in aniline dyed gray, black, white, and red hues with eye dazzler and whirling log (swastika) motifs. The whirling log represents well being, good luck and protection amongst southwestern tribes, but in 1940 in response to the Nazi regime, many tribes renounced the use of the pattern in their crafts. This rug probably predates the World War II era. Size: 57" L x 34" W (144.8 cm x 86.4 cm)
