Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Native American, California, Yuman peoples, early 20th century CE. A lovely Yuma doll, hand-modeled from unfired clay, hand-painted with traditional Mojave-inspired patterns, and adorned with horse hair and a skirt made from two fabrics (one solid pink and the other with a red/white floral pattern) tied to her waist with black embroidery thread. She stands with her hands below her breasts. Both her chest and face are painted with red and white pigments, her eyes are delineated in black, and her mouth is adorned with a black dotted pattern. Yuma dolls are relatively rare compared to Mojave dolls, but they are easily mistaken for one another. One difference between the two is that Yuma dolls have hair coming straight out of a hole on the top of the head which is then tied around the head as we see in this example. Size: 2.75" W x 7.5" H (7 cm x 19 cm)
