Native American, northern Canada, Inuit peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A delightful human figure, carved from whale bone, featuring outstretched arms, a squared-off head, and smiling facial features. The figure wears a parka with thick sleeves and stands on two slightly splayed legs. The overall impression is one of joy. The Inuit have an ancient tradition - at least 1000 years long - of making dolls both as playthings and as good luck charms. Size: 6.25" W x 5.5" H (15.9 cm x 14 cm)

  • Condition: Back of one foot is lost and the other foot is repaired. The figure can stand easily on its own. "15" is written in red ink on the underside of the repaired feet. Natural fissures in the bone are visible on the back of the figure and on one arm. Rich patina on surface.
