Description:

Native American, US Southwest, ca. early 20th century CE. An interesting form of cooking vessel known as a "culinary shoe-pot," composed of painted ceramic in the rough form of a leg inside a boot. The body is mainly dark red, with a black "sole" and black around the top like stitching. White-painted decoration contributes to the shoe-like look of the piece by mimicking beaded work on real Native American shoes. This piece represents a whimsical style of vessel made by indigenous people in both South and North America. Size: 3.4" W x 4.7" H (8.6 cm x 11.9 cm)

Provenance: private Tacoma, Washington, USA collection; ex Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York, USA
