West Africa, Cameroon, Kom (also Bamumkom) peoples, Tikar group, ca. 1920s. A finely carved wooden helmet mask presenting bold features that include arched brows, large and wide-open almond-shaped eyes, a broad nose with curved nostrils, cup-shaped ears protruding from the sides, a large open mouth revealing upper and lower teeth, and a cap-like coiffure or headdress incised with decorative striations/lobes. The wood also presents with nice traces of red and white pigments. Size: 9.25" W x 13" H (23.5 cm x 33 cm)
