Description:

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, Japan, ca. early 20th century CE. A gorgeous, hand-carved wooden tokkosho, a variant of the traditional Tibetan vajra employed by Japanese Buddhist practitioners. This single-pronged type of vajra has four sets of concentric circles decorating the central sphere which is flanked by a pair of hemispherical lotus flowers on either side. From the outermost lotuses project a rectangular blade with bifurcated sides and central midribs which ultimately terminate in a point. Much of the tool is covered in lustrous dark-brown patina, though some areas exhibit a lighter caramel-brown hue. Size: 0.75" W x 3.1" H (1.9 cm x 7.9 cm).
