Description:

Native American, Canada, Inuit, ca. early 20th century CE. A humorous soapstone carving of a dog eating a fish from a fisherman's cache. The dog rears on his hind legs against the drying pole or rack that has two fish suspended from the top. The dog and fish pole rest on an integral base. The underside is signed with the carver's name and perhaps a serial number: "NUYIVIK E 9-975." A charming depiction! Size: 3.75" L x 5.5" H (9.5 cm x 14 cm)

Provenance: private Littleton, Colorado, USA collection, purchased at Gladys' Gifts, Barrow, Alaska, USA in 1962
