Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved puppet head meant to accompany a larger, costume-adorned puppet figure. The head exhibits a white-painted face with intricate black detailing around the eyes and ears, red lips, and yellow-orange tassels dangling in front of either temple. The tall headdress features white, black, and red detailing and rests behind a crown composed of several triangular peaks. The tubular neck served as one of the handles within the puppet costume so the puppeteer could maneuver and redirect the gaze of the puppet's head. Size: 2.7" W x 7.625" H (6.9 cm x 19.4 cm); 9.7" H (24.6 cm) on included custom stand.
