Southeast Asia, Indonesia, western Java, Sundanese people, ca. early 20th century CE. An interesting example of a kujang, an ancient style of agricultural tool used by farmers that also doubled as an effective weapon. The carbon steel weapon has a crescent-form blade, a large shoulder projection, and a curved body adorned with several perforations. The blade tang is inserted into a curved wooden handle bearing dark hues and minimalist incised decorations, and the blade fits neatly into an open-sided sheath. Size (w/ sheath): 20.375" L x 3.4" W (51.8 cm x 8.6 cm); (blade): 13.1" L x 3" W (33.3 cm x 7.6 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to sheath with overpainting and small chips along break lines. Minor abrasions to blade, with wear and chips to exterior walls of some perforations, and light abrasions to handle, otherwise in very good condition. Nice patina throughout.
