Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful example of a forged-carbon-steel blade from a personal ceremonial sword type known as a kris (also keris). The thick shoulder has a protruding hand guard with curled tendrils on either side, and a dense tang extends from the top. The stocky blade exhibits an oscillating serpentine profile with sharpened edges, a pointed tip, and a raised midrib that splits into three separate ribs just beneath the hand guard. Areas of lighter nickel material have been integrated into the blade via the folding process and create a pleasing bi-chrome presentation. Size: 20.4" L x 3.7" W (51.8 cm x 9.4 cm)
