**Originally Listed At $500**

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A beautiful example of a kris (keris), a type of personal ceremonial sword. The Sulawesi-style handle is carved from coffee-hued hard wood and depicts an abstract garuda above a gilded-silver separator cup. The forged-iron blade has a straight profile, a projecting shoulder prong, and has integral, undulating bands of lighter nickel swirling throughout. The wooden sheath has a broad upper housing for the blade's shoulder, and the lower body is covered with a stunning jacket, formed from high-grade (98%) silver with a layer of gilding, replete with intricate foliate and stippled motifs in repousse. A fabulous example of classic Indonesian artistry! Size: 6" W x 17.6" H (15.2 cm x 44.7 cm); length of blade: 14.5" L (36.8 cm); quality of silver: 98%.
