Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Hopi Pueblo / O'odham, ca. early 20th century CE. A pottery black-on-red canteen, burnished until lustrous and slipped in a sienna-red hue then painted with black lines and a sunburst motif. A leather cord is tied to the small lug handles. This style of vessel was modeled after the metal and glass canteens that were widely used in the 19th and early 20th century. This piece is unsigned. Size: 7" Diameter x 3.5" W (17.8 cm x 8.9 cm)
