Description:

North Pacific, Hawaii, Hamakua District, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. An elegant carved-Koa wood bowl boasting a flat, circular base with smooth walls that rise to a gently flared, annular rim. In addition to this attractive form, the wood itself is inherently gorgeous, presenting mesmerizing grain patterns and warm lustrous patina in hues of caramel, butterscotch, chocolate brown, and espresso. The base of the lovely vessel bears a partially legible inscription reading, "Hamakua, Hawaii / Koa". A wonderful example made from wood of the flowering Acacia Koa tree. Interestingly, in the Hawaiian language, the word koa means fearless warrior. Size: 8" in diameter x 3.125" H (20.3 cm x 7.9 cm)
