Description:

Oceania, Fiji Islands, ca. early 20th century CE. A beautiful headrest with a planar base, an openwork ring-shaped support, and an elongated rectangular resting platform which is gently grooved towards the midpoint. The elegant presentation of the headrest is only furthered by the lustrous patina across the resting platform as well as on the support and top of the base. Dark-brown in color, this would have provided a comfortable place to rest the head of an individual, either living or deceased. Size: 15.25" W x 4" H (38.7 cm x 10.2 cm).
