Description:

Indonesia, Borneo, Eastern and Central Kalimantan, Kayanic, Dayak peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A fantastical dark wood house finial in the form of the sinuous creature known as an "aso". This is a stylized dragon whose name in the Kayanic language means "dog." This is not because the figure has any canine features, but because the dragon's form is so powerful that it must be handled with care, and its real name cannot be invoked without invoking its power. Instead, it is called "aso" as a shorthand. Size: 16" W x 4" H (40.6 cm x 10.2 cm); 7.95" H (20.2 cm) on included custom stand.
