**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. early 20th century. A gorgeous hand-carved wood triptych shrine with a flat, octagonal base and rounded top enveloped in a rich hue of chocolate brown. Featuring a lotus flower at its top, the exterior is decorated with a floral motif and two vertical lines of Chinese characters, all in low relief. The piece is divided into three panels that open to display a high relief Buddha at the center, sitting cross-legged on a pedestal amidst a group of devout followers. Two heavily adorned figures sit on each side panel, also surrounded by followers. The area above the Buddha is embellished with three Chinese characters, and a border of ten petite figures adorns the bottom of all panels. Size when open: 7.75" W x 6.625" H (19.7 cm x 16.8 cm) Size when closed: 3" W (7.6 cm)
