Description:

Southeast Asia, Burma / Myanmar, ca. early 20th century CE. A gorgeously carved teak statue of a kneeling devotee in the Mandalay style, made from multiple pieces of wood and elegantly joined together with dowels. The wood is gilded, and the aged patina on the surface gives it a soft gleam. The figure squats on a large lotus throne, elbows resting on his knees, his hands clasped together before his face in prayer. His face is upturned, a serene look on his face, which is carved in the Mandalay style, with flattened features, large ears, a prominent brow, and a lifelike nose and mouth. The figure gives off an air of deep contentment and worshipfulness. Size: 12.75" L x 9.85" W x 28" H (32.4 cm x 25 cm x 71.1 cm)
