Description:

West Africa, Burkina Faso, Lobi culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved anthropomorphic bust with a bell-shaped lower body and a bulbous head. Along the upper body is one mortise for attaching a separate arm and shoulders that taper gently upwards to form the narrow neck. Almond-shaped eyes, a symmetrical nose, thin lips, and full cheeks comprise the stylized countenance, and a shallow striation across the brow delineates the forehead from the red skullcap. Size: 10.375" W x 16.75" H (26.4 cm x 42.5 cm)
