Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Apache people, ca. early 20th century CE. A woven basketry vessel of a spherical form with a concave base, a rounded shoulder, a corseted neck with a reinforced rim, and a pair of thin strap loops along one side of the shoulder. Water baskets like this example were covered in thick, sticky pitch to seal the innumerable gaps between the woven strands to mitigate and altogether halt any leakage of the liquid contained within.
