Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, Skagway, Tlingit or Haida, ca. 1920 to 1930 CE. A petite and wonderful totem pole, hand-carved from a single piece of hard wood, depicting a stylized bear. The bear is shown eating the tail end of a small seal - perhaps a pup - while squatting atop a small ovoid platform. Red paint embellishes the bear's arms, legs, and ears, and a blue eye mask covers its eyes and nose. Curved eye brows and a small mustache along with the seal are painted black. While the obverse side is finely detailed, the verso is planar. A lovely example from the Native Alaskans! Size: 1.125" W x 8.125" H (2.9 cm x 20.6 cm).
