Description:

Africa, probably Housa/Tuareg peoples, early 20th century CE. Finely woven from natural fibers, perhaps a riding crop or part of a horse bridal. Throughout its length are striking geometric motifs - running diamond motifs and diamond-headed diagonal striations - in hues of chocolate brown, autumnal orange, and creamy beige. There is a braided fiber suspension loop attached to the end of the handle and a tuft of flowing orange fibers at the opposite end of the handle. The tip of the implement presents a leather tongue. Overall, the crop is still quite flexible and presents an attractive aesthetic. Size: 28.5" L (72.4 cm) including suspension loop
